Beauty and The Beat: Dee Rivera Uses Beauty and Fashion to Spread Social Awareness

Meet Dee Rivera, founder of Latinista and Dee & Co group. I met this beauty while attending an event and was immediately enthralled by her upbeat energy and go getter attitude. All night I watched Dee shoot from managing a team, interacting with guest, and giving make up tips of her own. I had to find out more about this mogul in the making so Art Of A Woman caught up with Dee for a quick girl talk

AOW: How did you get your start in the industry?

D: I actually got my start in editorial, I was working for Latina Magazine. I started working for a bunch of photographers doing PR for a couple of companies like Family Guides and so forth. From there I got involved with ShopAddicts.com and it grew from there.

AOW: What is Latinista?

D: With Latinista we're growing so we bring social awareness to the smaller nonprofits no one knows about. So that’s really the goal at every event. I’m all about social causes especially when it comes to women and children so really try at every event that is a very key component to ensuring that we make women aware of what causes are out there that no one knows about.

AOW: So that’s basically what Dee & Co is about to bring awareness to small non profits or is it more than that?
D: That’s definitely one component of our business, the other component is bringing brands awareness and marketing awareness so we try to connect the brand and the consumer through interactive events, through shopping experiences and pop up stores.
AOW: When was Dee & Co founded?
D: First we started shop addicts in 2010, Dee & Co started actually in February so we’ve had to start an umbrella as far as like a corporate umbrella and then the brand extensions under that. So right now we’re trying to solidify everything you know to make sure that everything is going through Co group.
AOW: Wow and in such little time you’ve had a lot of success! Latinista has become an annual event correct?
D: Latinista started last year and started as a pilot and then it became a brand in itself because the Latina market is huge so we started being co group now we have ShopAddicts, Latinista and other brands that are coming on board.
AOW: How did you pair up with Iman Cosmetics for the event?
D: Well I met them and they were looking for someone as a platform to launch their new BB Crème and so we made that connection and the rest is history.

AOW: What other events are coming up that we should know about?
D:  We have Latinista fashion week coming August 23rd-24th and we have a Latinista rooftop party in July with Iman Cosmetics. We have our Fashion Night out in September and then Dee & Co is having a beauty lounge in South Hampton in July. The date is not set yet but we will let everyone know.

AOW: How can people find out about your events?

D: Our websites will be launch soon. People can go on Eventbrite or people can email me at Deecogroup@gmail.com.

Keep an eye out for this woman! More events will be coming soon so check back with Art Of A Woman frequently to find out more!

New Makeup Obsession! "Mally" Waterproof Eyeliner

Recently I went into Henri Bendel's just browsing and a sales woman came up to my friend and I and asked if we have ever tried the makeup products by Mally. It was my first time in Bendel's so I hadn't tried any of Mally's products before. When the sales woman put "Mally" waterproof eyeliner on my eyes, it was absolutely amazing! This eyeliner is a pencil, but it goes on smooth like as if you were to use a liquid or gel liner. The color is vibrant and makes your eyes really pop. The sales woman told me that this product lasts for hours upon time. I put her statement to the test! I left my makeup until the evening and it looked just as good as when she first applied it. What I like about this product is that it is very reasonable and it gets the job done. At Bendel's the liner cost $15. I promise you, this will be the best $15 that you've ever spent. You can purchase the liner at Henri Bendel stores or online at, http://www.mallybeauty.com/ultimate-performance-waterproof-eyeliner

Fragrance Personality

Just about everyone wears fragrance. Fragrance is a way that you can connect with others by using your natural senses. smell is one of the strongest senses. When purchasing a fragrance do you make your purchase depending on your mood or regularity? Are you the customer open to check out different fragrance options or do you usually stick to the same perfume? I know many people that like to change their perfumes daily depending on their mood, while others stick with their usual fragrance. Fragrances are split into different categories. The categories are sweet, floral, warm, and fresh. Sweet scents include fragrances that smell like fruits and candies examples are apples, pears, etc.floral scents are Daisys, honeysuckle, etc. warm include amber, Creme, musk and spice, vanilla. fresh include honey dew, spring iris, and jasmine. Personally, I like to switch my fragrance with my mood. Some days I like to smell sweet while others fresh. What fragrances do you enjoy wearing and why? Do you find that you are a sweet, warm, floral or fresh fragrance user? Comment below:

Too Many Primers to choose from!

It happens to everyone at some time and another. when shopping for makeup it can be sometimes overwhelming. They're too many choices to decide from. I can help you relax and not get overwhelmed when shopping. The first thing is to know your products. If you know what the products do, it can make your decision easier and not stressful. I find that customers have trouble when deciding on their primer. Primer is essential when putting on makeup. It is a base that helps the makeup to stay on all day and keep your skin moisturized at the same time. They're many types of primers depending on your skin type and what you're looking for the primer to do. Here is an easy way to remember the different primers and there uses.

Green Primer- takes away red tones
Orange/Apricot Primer- takes a shadows (good for dark circles)
Blue primer- usually extra moisturizing clear or white primer- good for all skin types provides basic moisture and base to skin.

Summer is coming as the weather starts to warm up! Bright lipstick colors are already starting to hit the makeup counters.  Rarely you will see the plum and the berry color on the lips during ths summer! This summer the colors that you will seeing are in the shades from sheer pink to crazy coral. Depending on your mood you can opt with a sheer lipstick almost like a balm or go with the usual lipstick. Coral is the perfect summer shade because it works with just about any skin tone. It is a festive pop of color to the face. Loreal makes a on excellent sheer lip balm. It gives a nice tint while moisturizing the lips. Another one that you can try is Victoria Secrets new sheer lipstick. The colors are inspired by Italy with beautiful pink shades in the collection. 2013 IMATS Review

Hey Beauties,

IMATS this year was definitely a “Must Attend Show”!!!  This was my second year attending and yet again, it blew me away!  If you love makeup & the beauty industry as much as I do, then you would agree that you were in makeup heaven at this show.  Companies such as Eve Pearl, Mehron, Temptu, Lit Cosmetics, KA’OIR, Makeup For Ever, Inglot, OCC, Royal Brush Company and many many more were in attendance.  This year, both days were sold out completely!  Not only were the tickets sold out, but a lot of products were sold out too.  Luckily, I was able to pick up some goodies in which I will review once I use them.
Another great reason that made IMATS so impressive was the lectures & panel discussions given by some of the top professionals in the beauty industry.  I attended many of them but one in particular that really stood to out me was the “Beauty of Business” lecture presented by Matthew Ambrosio & Karin Caro.  Matthew Ambrosio is a makeup artist, published writer & beauty editor.  Karin Caro is the president of BluChip Marketing & a top-ranking international publicist.  This lecture really focused on expanding your brand, social media & how to effectively in a nut shell “market yourself so that you can live out your dreams”.  Matthew & Karin were very inspiring, yet impactful & you can surely tell that they Love what they do!  Please see the pictures below!  Post your comments, we would love to hear from you!

Look Cute and Stylish This Spring With Wedges!

Wedges are the perfect accent to any outfit this season. This shoe is perfect for the heel walking expert or the beginner. It is stylish yet comfortable at the same time. Pair it up with jeans for a cute look or with a pretty skirt. I like wedges because of all the fun prints that they come in. They are trendy and funky sometimes too. Wedges can be worn for day or night depending on how you style them. A cute idea is to match your toe nails to the color of your wedge as an extra attention to detail.
Check out some cute pictures of wedges that I found for some inspiration below:
